Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about one hundred years old. Current craps formed from the old English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s horsemen enjoyed Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French headed down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was gotten from the term for the losing throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and across the nation. A few consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the current craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win.
