Dice and dice games date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Modern craps formed from the ancient English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s paladins enjoyed Hazard amid a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French moved down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair.
